MS Marco Polo

Original known as the MS Alexandr Pushkin, MS Marco Polo was built in 1965. The history of Marco Polo is very sketchy; she initially started cruising with the Baltic Shipping Company during the sixties and rumour has it that Transocean Tours had previously charted her between 1979 and 1985.

What is known is that after a rebuild in 1993, MS Marco Polo was owned and operated by Orient Lines under the MS Marco Polo brand. When Orient Lines was sold to the Norwegian Cruise Line, MS Marco Polo was one luxury too many and was sold to Global Maritime. It is Global Maritime who has since charted MS Marco Polo to Transocean Tours Cruises.

MS Marco Polo is extremely small by today’s standards; she weighs in at just 22,080 tons and carries about 960 passengers in 425 cabins. The cabins are relatively small with many being in the 100 to 110 sq foot region. Though not everyone cup of tea, MS Marco Polo has many repeat passengers
