It is amazing how many cruise lines will be offering Cruise Holidays from Southampton during 2011; I believe it is 10. In order to fill the new large cruise ships, cruise companies are having to look at making prices cheaper; one way is to cut out the flight.

Does this mean that year round cruise holidays from Southampton will be here to stay or once the world recession is over will we resort back to having no cruise ships offering year round cruise holidays from Southampton?

Not many people realise that Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas now offers cruise holidays from Southampton all year round. These are probably going to be more common in the future as cruise lines try to find ways to keep their ships full.

There are many people who have been asking for cruises from Southampton during the winter now they have what they want hopefully it will be something that is here to stay.

One other thing that is perhaps more commonly known is that cruise holidays are the fastest growing sector in travel. I guess this is behind the reasoning for having cruise holidays from Southampton year round

Many Cruises from Southampton are available via some of the worlds top cruise lines including Cunard Cruises, P&O Cruises and Royal Caribbean International.

Most cruise holidays from Southampton go to the Baltic’s, the Canary Islands, the Norwegian Fjords and the Mediterranean although other round trip cruises are available including transatlantic to the USA, the Caribbean and even World Cruises.

For cheap cruises from Southampton with Cunard there is a choice of three ships; Queen Victoria, Queen Mary 2 and the new Queen Elizabeth. Queen Mary 2 entered service in 2004 and at 151,400 tons is the largest of the three ships in the Cunard fleet. Queen Victoria built in 2007 is a sister ship to Queen Elizabeth; both being Vista class ships.

Another Vista class ship that regularly cruises from Southampton is P&O Cruises Arcadia; built in 2005 she is a little older than her Cunard based sisters. P&O Cruises offer more cruises from Southampton than any other cruise line, their ships other than Arcadia are P&O Adonia (joining in 2011), P&O Aurora, P&O Azura, P&O Oceana, P&O Oriana & P&O Ventura.

The Fred Olsen Cruise Line offers cheap cruises from Southampton on-board Balmoral, Black Watch and Boudicca. Black Watch will spend a lot of time in the Baltic’s, Norway and the Caribbean before cruising around South America in January 2010. Boudicca’s cruise holidays from Southampton will be spent her in the Fjords, the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands and the Caribbean.

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) offered cruises onboard one ship out of Southampton in 2009; the Norwegian Jade. Currently NCL do not offer cruises from Southampton .

Both Crown Princess & Grand Princess part the Princess Cruises fleet offer cheap cruises from Southampton. They offer cruises to all the usual places such as the Mediterranean, the British Isles and the Norwegian Fjords as well as Canary Islands cruises.

Royal Caribbean International is a very popular cruise line and Southampton is lucky enough to have Independence of the Seas offering cruise holidays from the port. Independence of the Seas is currently the second largest cruise ships in the world; since loosing her largest title to Oasis of the Seas in 2009. Independence of the Seas now cruises year round from Southampton and includes itineraries to all the usual regions such as the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands.

Between 2010 and the end of 2011 there will be 10 major cruise lines offering Cheap Cruises from Southampton more than at any other time in the history of cruising.

I was doing some research today for a new and improved section that I am working on and calculated that their will be 17 different ships offering cruises from Southampton in 2010. This is the main stream cruise lines, aka Royal Caribbean and Carnival UK ships along with Fred Olsen.

The 17th and last cruise ship will be Cunard’s’ Queen Elizabeth when she cruises from Southampton in December 2010.
