Pacific Sun Rescues Four

A P&O Australia ship has rescued four yachtsmen who run aground on a reef on in the Coral Sea. Crew from Pacific Sun came to the sailors rescue by launching a lifeboat to help the stranded quartet.

Pacific Sun was carrying almost 2,000 passengers at the time of the rescue en route to Brisbane. The rescue took just over an hour and all parties were pronounced fit and well after having been checked over by a doctor.

P&O Cruises Australia’s Pacific Dawn is due to celebrate her first birthday on 7th November 2008. To mark this occasion the cruise line is to launch onboard coffee appreciation courses which will be exclusively available from November 2008.

The coffee appreciation courses will see a mixture of coffee demonstrations and interactive lectures on each of the cruises. The demonstrations and lectures are designed to show guests all they need to know about the perfect coffee.

P&O has even provided training to some of their crew members to turn them into coffee ambassadors, ready for the launch of the courses. These new coffee ambassadors will be on hand to provide guests with everything they need to know and answer their coffee questions.

New Ships For P&O

P&O Cruises Australia has announced plans to extend its fleet with the addition of two more ships over the next two years.

The first of the two ships will be named Pacific Jewel and will sail from Brisbane in December 2009. Pacific Jewel will become the sister ship to Pacific Dawn. The second of the two ships will arrive late in 2010 and will sail from Auckland. Both superliners will carry approximately 2000 passengers.

The two ships will be deployed to P&O Australia from Carnival UK following the phasing out of Ocean Village Cruises.

Ocean Village Cruises Closed

Ocean Village Cruises is to be closed as the Carnival Corporation rearrange their UK based operation.

Even though Island Cruises has been sold by Royal Caribbean, this was not enough to save Ocean Village Cruises and they will be run down with both ships switching to P&O Cruises Australia.

According to Carnival Corporation, the UK market will be better served with the current P&O Cruises fleet which is set to expand when Azure joins them in March 2010.

Cunard, one of the other Carnival Corporation owned cruise lines are also set to get a new ship, the Queen Elizabeth in 2010.

P&O Cruises Australia have launched a new range of cuisine onboard both Pacific Sun and Pacific Dawn.

P&O are to launch a new range of fresher, locally-grown ingredients on a range of new menus, international wine brands will be replaced with a selection of Australian and New Zealand wines as well as adding specialist onboard coffee ambassadors to coincide with the Australians love of coffee.

P&O Cruises Australia has now launched a new and advanced wireless network which allows passengers to make and receive calls from their own personal mobiles.

The launch of this network means that passengers onboard will find it a lot easier to stay in touch with their loved ones back home.

Access will be made available throughout the staterooms and in many public areas onboard both Pacific Sun and Pacific Dawn.

P&O Cruises Australia have announced the introduction of new cruises for 2010 onboard Pacific Sun and Pacific Dawn.

The new cruises will last two to three nights and are to be themed sampler cruises that offer wine tasting and cooking classes.

The sampler cruises give guests who want to experience cruising the chance to experience it for the first time and see what they think.

Another 24 new cruises have been added to the 2010 itinerary.

P&O Cruises Australia’s Pacific Sun is to head to Brisbane to undergo scheduled maintenance work and refurbishment.

Pacific Sun will dock from Saturday 30th August 2008 for 12 days before sailing on a South Pacific cruise on Saturday 13th September 2008.

As well as maintenance work P&O are taking the opportunity to improve the interior of Pacific Sun with the addition of an adult’s only Oasis Spa and ocean-view gym.

P&O Cruises Pacific Sun Hit by Severe Weather

Severe weather conditions have swept across the region affecting P&O Cruises’ Pacific Sun.

The cruise ship was just north of Auckland when it rolled sharply at around 8pm last night after experiencing 7 metre swells and 50 knot winds. Due to this sudden movement that occurred around 40 passengers have been treat onboard by the medical staff.

The cruise ship has been delayed due to the bad weather so will not return to Auckland for at least 24 hours after the expected arrival time.

“I would like to assure the friends and families of our passengers that they are in good care onboard the ship,” a P&O Cruises spokesperson said.
