Disney Introduces Podcasting

Disney Cruise Line is to reach out to potential guests through podcasting and will provide guests with in-depth information on specific areas of Disney Cruise Line.
“The podcasts immerse guests in the Disney Cruise Line experience, bringing to life the way we cater to the specific needs of kids, adults, and the entire family,” said Joe Rand, Director of Marketing for Disney Cruise Line. “Each episode is three to five minutes long, making it easy for on-the-go parents to learn more about specific areas of the Disney cruise vacation experience.”
Information will include essential cruise information as well as what’s on offer for children and adults of all ages, helping families to find the perfect cruise for them onboard the family friendly cruise line.
Cruise Ships Collide in Greece

Two cruise ships have collided in Athens, Greece’s main port. There has been damage to the cruise ships but no injuries have been caused.
The Pullmantur cruise ship Zenith which was carrying nearly 2000 passengers collided with the Aegean Pearl as it was maneuvering to dock in the port. Luckily nobody was injured in the collision however the cruise ships are not allowed to leave the port until all damage has been assessed.
Aegean Pearl will be out of service for a week whilst it undergoes repairs for minor damage that it sustained through the collision.
MSC Launch Online Check-In

MSC Cruises has announced the launch of MSC Express, a new online check-in service which will be available at all major ports in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.
By introducing this new check-in service passengers will benefit from being able to reduce the amount of time spent boarding the ship.
Passengers simply go to the online check-in and enter the relevant information where they will receive a printout allowing them to be fast-tracked through check-in saving them a lot of queuing time.
“MSC Cruises has a commitment to providing innovative solutions that help our passengers have the most enjoyable trip possible. The addition of online check-in and dedicated MSC Express desks is an extra convenience that cuts queues and waiting times at the port, meeting the growing demands of busy clients.”

P&O Cruises Ban Smoking

P&O Cruises has announced that it will go smoke free in all inside areas on board three of the cruise ships in its fleet. This will come into place in October where there will be allocated smoking areas put into place. Passengers will also be able to smoke on their cabin balconies. The three cruise ships this will affect are Oceana, Ventura and Artemis.
P&O Cruises managing director, Nigel Esdale, said: “Since Britain went smoke free in July 2007 the British public has become accustomed to being in a smoke free environment with 76 per cent of the general public supporting the ban. We hope that becoming smoke free will give all our passengers, especially children, a cleaner and more pleasant environment in which at enjoy their holiday on board. Cruise ships already provide so many ways to have a fun and healthy holiday, such as spas and fitness centres, and this is another step towards an even healthier holiday experience for all. Ventura and Oceana are both child friendly, and between them could have over 1000 children on board at any one time, therefore we want to ensure they are breathing clean air on board as well as clean ocean air out on open deck.”
Thomson Cruises Southampton Sailings

Thomson Cruises are set to sail from Southampton with cruise ship Thomson Spirit taking on two Southampton sailings in 2009. The Iberian sailings are due to take place in September and October of that year.
A 12 night sailing will take place in September 2009 and will visit destinations including Lisbon, Malaga and Porto before returning to Southampton.
An 8 night sailing will then take place in October 2009 visiting destinations such as Lisbon and Alicante before finishing up in Palma.
Seabourn Odyssey 450 Godparents

Seabourn Odyssey is to be the newest addition to the Seabourn fleet in June 2009 and will have 450 godparents. Each passenger onboard Odyssey’s maiden voyage that is due to depart Venice on the 24th June 2009 will become godparents to the yacht.
“Everything we do at Seabourn is focused on our guests who, in a very real sense, are the reason this superb vessel is being built,” said Pamela C. Conover, president and CEO of The Yachts of Seabourn. “Those joining Odyssey’s maiden voyage will not only be treated like a celebrity, but will become a part of the vessel’s history, representing the many guests who have sailed with us in the past and those who will sail on her in the years to come.”
A ceremony will be held to christen the yacht before departing on a 14 day voyage to explore the Dalmatian coast, the Greek Isles and Turkey.
Seabourn Odyssey is the first of three new additions to the Seabourn fleet weighing in at 32,000 tons and is designed to accommodate up to 450 guests. Her maiden season will include a mixture of Mediterranean and Caribbean cruises before embarking on Seabourn’s first-ever World Cruise scheduled for January 2010.
MSC Cruises Floating Out Ceremony for Splendida

A floating out ceremony took place in France yesterday for MSC Splendida, the newest addition to the MSC Cruises fleet.
MSC Splendida was accompanied by a fleet of eight tugboats at the Aker Yards in St. Nazaire. The ceremony lasted approximately one hour before she docked to have her construction completed. MSC Splendida will weigh in at 133,500 tonnes with 1,637 cabins accommodating 3,274 passengers. Daytime facilities onboard will include a spa, swimming pools, hydro massage pools, a formula 1 simulator, sports facilities and shops. In the evening facilities will include a sports bar, a jazz bar, a casino and a disco. Other facilities onboard include a 4D interactive cinema and theatre as well as an area dedicated to children and teenagers.
The cruise ship will be christened in Barcelona in the summer of 2009.

Set up to offer some great Cruise Holidays for their clients, Cruisegle now includes a popular Cruise Forum as well a section looking at types of Cruises. Not stopping at just the worlds top Cruise Lines such as Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruises and P&O Cruises, Cruisegle considers the smaller ones such as Ocean Village, with just two ships to be as big a part of their website as the other, larger conglomerates.
The site is interesting and growing daily, though the makers consider that it will never be finished as hopefully there will be plenty more pieces of Cruise News to follow.
Fred Olsen’s Braemar Lengthened

Fred Olsen’s cruise ship Braemar has completed her major refit and lengthening ready to recommence her cruise programme from Southampton.
Work on Braemar to insert a new mid section into the vessel began on 13th May in Hamburg. The mid section adds an extra 31.2 metres to the length meaning that more accommodation can be added making the total passenger capacity 968 from 727.
The transformation has also meant that a new dining facility can be added, a new pool area, a pool bar and an Observatory Lounge offering fantastic views. As part of the Arts Club programme a new arts and crafts room has also been added providing a more peaceful atmosphere.
Marketing director Nigel Lingard said: “By lengthening and enhancing Braemar we have created space to carry more passengers on one of our most popular ships, but have retained that ‘small ship’ friendly feeling. I am confident that our regular customers will be delighted with the improvements we have made and we also look forward to welcoming many new faces aboard Braemar in the coming months.“
